KC Express on the Kaw

Join us for a Kansas River Adventure!  It is our favorite place to spend time in nature and we can’t wait to share it with you.  We will paddle the Mighty Kaw from Lawrence to Eudora on Sunday July 17th.  This is a lovely section of the Kansas River affording us some sandbar exploration time, scenic views and the likely hood of wildlife viewing including eagles.

We will send an email to all registrants a few days prior to July 17th.  All details may change based on weather and river conditions.

OYO GEAR DROP 9:00am:  This is you if you are bringing your own kayak, you will need to gear drop at Lawrence 8th St. River Access then you’ll head to Eudora to board the bus.  We will remain with your gear, and ours while you’re gone.

EVERYONE CHECK IN:  10:00am at the Eudora  River Access Ramp  to load the bus for a ride to Lawrence. 

Regular Rental: $50

Bring: sunscreen, water – at least 3 liters, electrolyte replacements, hearty snacks and lunch, beverage of choice, small soft sided coolers fit into the kayaks more easily – feel free to bring more than one.

Wear:  a hat, sunglasses, sun protectant clothing, water shoes or old tennis shoes (crocs and flip flops are not acceptable) we suggest a car bag for post paddle – dry towel to sit on, dry clothes… makes the ride home more comfy

Expected time commitment: However long it takes, we don’t rush, we go with the flow.  This start time suggests we’ll be off river late afternoon.

Dirty Girl Adventures Event Refund Policy:

Refunds are given up to two weeks before the date of the event no questions asked. After that, refunds are not given unless there are exceptional circumstances. Dirty Girl Adventures may cancel or modify an event due to weather or conditions. Everyone will receive a refund if that is the reason for the cancellation. We will paddle and hike in cool, rainy or snowy conditions. Cancellation only occurs in severe weather or other dangerous conditions.

What are you paying for?

It’s more than a rented kayak, it’s an experience!  We will lift and haul all the gear you need for your adventure. We will provide instruction, support, guidance and safety information before and during each event. We will be there with you for the duration of the event doing our best to help you remain comfortable and engaged in the adventure. You will have the opportunity to ride the Dirty Bus as your shuttle from one point to the other.

Integrative Restorative* (iRest) Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) workshop

Join us for a special class with our friend and Certified Yoga Teacher Annemarie Chilton.  Annemarie has been a certified yoga instructor since 2013.  She specializes in Yoga Nidra and meditation practices and has taught over 2000 hours of workshops in yoga and meditation.   Annemarie is a Certified iREST Yoga Nidra instructor.  She is excited to share her knowledge with us in this special series of Yoga Nidra.

Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation, deepening your connection to intentional living, your body and breath, your emotions and thoughts, while welcoming joy and well being, and increasing awareness of yourself and your environment.  iRest is a researched Yoga Nidra practice that, when practiced regularly – little and often – enables you to meet each moment of your life with unshakable peace and wellbeing, no matter how challenging or difficult your situation.

Each week we will focus on parts of the 10 step process of iRest, weaving our study into our bodies and minds during the guided meditation, creating a state of such deep meditation as to resemble sleep, and providing an energetically healing practice.

While engaging in ALL of the 4 sessions will provide the MOST benefit from iRest Yoga Nidra, there are multiple ways to participate!  Our goal is to help you extend your yoga and meditation practices to support you in cultivating healthy life practices.

Classes will be on Tuesdays at Compass Point, 800 North Kansas Avenue in Topeka, 6-7:15.

Nature in Art – Gel Printing Techniques

We’re SO excited about the first in our Art in Nature Saturday Sessions – Gel Printing!  We will provide all of the information, supplies and instruction enabling you to create prints with natural objects, hand cut shapes and other materials.

You will have the opportunity to create several unique prints while learning some basic techniques in gel printing.  We love art and creating art in ways that are accessible to everyone.  Gel printing is fun, fast and creates really cool art.

Space is limited for this session in order to ensure that everyone has access to materials but never fear, we will have more sessions of this nature!

What to wear/bring:  clothes that might get paint on them – an apron would work just fine as well.  We do have a few craft aprons available.

Class 1-3pm please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to browse the shop and get settled in your workspace.

Join us for Compass Point Yoga Inside with RYT Jennifer Sieben.  Classes are perfect for beginners and yet provides a challenge for experienced practitioners as well.  Jennifer creates excellent classes and adjusts for each of us.

Let’s Hike at Lake Clinton

Join us on Saturday March 26th for 4ish miles on the George Latham Trail.  This is one of our favorite hikes.  Dogs on leashes are welcome as are Dirty Dudes, and big kids.  This hike includes steep inclines/declines, rocky trail surfaces, and views of the lake through the trees.   We hope to see a variety of migrating birds, eagles and other wildlife as well as signs of wildlife along the trail.  We’ll share some stories of native plants, animals and the lake history during the hike.  This would be a good hike to carry your backpack to gain some experience.  It’s also a great hike for beginners to gain some experience on multiple terrain types.

This event is open to all hikers who can hike 5ish miles.

Check in:  9:30am at Woodbridge Primitive Park – specific directions and instructions will be emailed by the 24th.

Wear/Bring:  layers, hat, sturdy shoes, snacks, good socks, trekking poles, day pack, water

Journey to Wholehearted Living in 2022!

“Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness.  It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to wake up in the morning and think No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.  It’s going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am brave and worthy of love and belonging.”             – Brene Brown, Gifts of Imperfection Join Dirty Girl Adventures on a special journey to develop a map that will lead you to wholehearted living during 2022.  This 4 week class will focus on 10 strategies that we can implement to live fully, and generate self-awareness and self-acceptance.  The class includes 4 group sessions at Compass Point.  There will be reading, journaling and other self-reflection activities to guide you along your journey, and safe opportunities to discuss these issues with others in the group.   Art and craft activities will help you move what you have learned from your head to your heart, through your hands.  The art you create will serve as a daily reminder throughout 2022 to keep you on the right path. Journey to whole-hearted living in 2022 will pull knowledge and information from Brene Brown, Kristen Neff, Rachel Hollis and many other teachers of self-improvement.  This class includes 12 hours of support, guidance and encouragement as well as opportunities to share and discuss your thoughts, ideas and worries. Class times:  4 Sundays March 6, 27 and April 3, 24 Location:  Compass Point home of Dirty Girl Adventures You will need a Journal or notebook and a copy of The Gifts of Imperfection by Brenè Brown. This book is available at your local Bookstore or Library.   It is also available on Audible and Amazon. All other supplies will be provided. Our lead teacher for this class series is Jennifer Woerner.  She is the Co-Owner and Creative Director of Dirty Girl Adventures, LLC, and Compass Point. She has 22 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist and a lifetime of experience as an Outdoor Adventurer. She has experience in life skills therapies, environmental education, outdoor adventure, fitness, and nutrition. Denise Selbee-Koch will be the co-teacher throughout this class series.  She is the Original Dirty Girl and Co-Owner of Dirty Girl Adventures, LLC and Compass Point. She has 25 years of experience as a Social Worker and a lifetime of experience as an Outdoor Adventurer. Denise is a Licensed Master’s Level Social Worker with experience in individual and family therapy, environmental education, outdoor adventure, fitness, and nutrition.
