Hike for Healthcare
October 24 @ 7:00 am - 7:30 pm
On October 24th ODIM and friends will be hiking through the stunning Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas to raise funds for vulnerable communities in Guatemala.
We are planning a 6-mile hike and a 20-mile hike (you can choose either option) in Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve paired with an online auction.
The 20-mile group will set off before sunrise, so be sure to bring your headlamp. If you sign up for this option, be prepared! It is a long hike and it is your own responsibility to carry your water, food and gear.
Those wanting to take part with our 6-mile hikers will need to arrive early afternoon. We hope this option will be accessible to most people, and we expect it to take around 3 hours.
The event will be a chance to get out into beautiful nature, hike across meadows and through woodlands, and to witness herds of bison in their natural habitat. Many of the hikers will be ODIM supporters, board members and donors, and so it is also a chance to get to know others who have been involved in ODIM’s work and to celebrate all we have achieved as a community.
If you are new to our group, please sign up! We hope to achieve amazing things as our family grows.
The cost to join is $100. Please click here to get your ticket. Once you are on the ticket page, click the down menu “Apply my Donation to” and select Option I: Kansas Trek Registration Fee. Contact Sarah at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to know more.
Our goal for the event is to raise $7,000 which is enough to give two underserved Mayan Communities in Rural Guatemala the chance to receive primary healthcare at a critical time. Your registration of $100 pays for us to employ one of our local Tz’utujil nurses for a week. Your support right now is more valuable than ever, as we have lost 7 volunteer teams so far this year who normally bring in thousands of dollars.
Last but not least, it’s important to keep in mind the current COVID-19 pandemic situation. At ODIM, we take health prevention seriously and so will be ensuring the event is organized in line with governmental recommendations and putting the group’s safety first. We can’t wait to see you!
